This problem seems to be completely related to the integrated Intel chip-set, I will post my lspci specs below but please be aware that I am not trying to run Compiz, I am simply surfing the net and playing music, occasionally watching a movie but all things that I could do quite well while running Etch. I have had no problems until now, at the beginning of the month I moved into an apartment that had internet access included in the rent so the first thing that I did was download a copy of Lenny (disc 1) and installed a base system with Gnome.
